European Parliament

Economic Adviser

At the European Parliament I worked in a political-group secretariat on economic, financial-services and budgetary policy. For selected files the work went well beyond monitoring: I analysed Commission proposals article by article, prepared technical and negotiating positions, drafted amendments, developed voting recommendations and assessed compromise options. I followed ECON and BUDG procedures from the Commission proposal through amendment deadlines and technical negotiations to committee or plenary votes. The Market Integration and Supervision Package was the clearest example of detailed legislative ownership, including coordination of a large amendment package across three legislative components. Other work covered the digital euro, RRF implementation, the post-2027 MFF, NRPP, securitisation, own resources, EU borrowing and NGEU, Ukraine financing, banking regulation, Banking Union and capital-market integration.

Role and scope

From May 2025 to September 2026, I worked at the European Parliament in a political-group secretariat covering economic, financial-services and budgetary policy. The core portfolio spanned ECON, BUDG and FISC, with additional economic and budget files where required. The role combined economic analysis, legislative drafting, political strategy and detailed knowledge of parliamentary procedure.

Legislative work

For selected files I analysed Commission proposals article by article, assessed the economic and institutional effects of individual provisions and translated political objectives into technically workable legislative text. I prepared briefings, amendments, voting recommendations and compromise options, and compared the amendment packages and negotiating positions of other political groups.

MISP and capital markets

The Market Integration and Supervision Package was the most detailed legislative file in my portfolio. My work covered the proposed transfer of supervisory powers to ESMA, proportionality for smaller markets, cross-border market integration, simplification and deregulation, and preparation of compromise positions across the three legislative components of the package.

EU budget and financing

In BUDG I worked on the annual EU budget, the 2028–2034 Multiannual Financial Framework, own resources, financial instruments, guarantees and contingent liabilities. A recurring focus was the EU's growing role as a debt issuer through NGEU and other instruments, including funding plans, debt-service costs and the implications for future MFF ceilings.

RRF and post-2027 architecture

My earlier DG ECFIN experience with the Recovery and Resilience Facility was directly relevant to parliamentary work on RRF implementation, milestones, payment requests and the debate over whether national-plan architecture should be retained in the post-2027 EU budget. I also worked on the proposed NRPP/Fund architecture, borrowing and national co-financing.

Banking and financial stability

On banking and prudential files I drew on previous ECB experience. I assessed capital requirements, Basel implementation, proportionality, regulatory burden, European banking competitiveness, the SSM and SRM, and the trade-off between financial stability and the costs created by regulation.
